Reiki

What is Reiki Energy Healing and how does it work?

Reiki energy healing is a sacred and noninvasive practice originating in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 1900s, that fosters peace, calm, and deep relaxation. The word Reiki means universal life force energy, the free flowing energy that loosens stagnation and encourages the body's own natural ability to dissolve and clear energy imbalances and blockages.

What can I expect during a Reiki healing session with Reiki Master practitioner Catherine Goodman?

During a Reiki healing session I’ll have you lay fully clothed on a treatment table. Using intuitive wellness, I will gently place my hands on or just above your body to channel free-flowing life force energy. This activates the parasympathetic nervous system where your body will shift from a stress-driven “fight-or-flight” mode to a restorative “rest-and-digest” state, supporting both physical and emotional well-being.

What will I feel during a Reiki session?

During a Reiki session it is common to feel deep tranquility. Some clients have reported a tingly feeling throughout their body, while others report a warming sensation. Clients have also described feelings of profound peace, calm, and harmony, while in a semi-sleep state of relaxation.

How can Reiki benefit athletic performance?

Reiki boosts athletic performance by cultivating mental clarity and fostering deep relaxation, which eases pre-competition anxiety, stress, and tension. Additionally, by calming the nervous system, Reiki accelerates the body's natural healing and post-workout recovery processes.

‍How can pregnant women benefit from Reiki?

Reiki is a remarkably safe, gentle, and non-invasive practice designed to support women through all stages of pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum care. Because it requires no physical pressure or manipulation, treatments can be easily customized with pillows for maximum comfort.

By soothing the nervous system, Reiki provides vital support to expectant mothers by:

- Relieving Pregnancy Discomfort: Gently eases physical tension, lower back pain, and round ligament strain.

- Reducing Anxiety and Fatique: Promotes deep relaxation to lower stress hormones, improve sleep quality, and calm pre-birth nerves.

- Alleviating Nausea: Helps stabilize the body's energy to mitigate morning sickness and hormonal shifts.

- Postpartum Healing: Accelerates physical recovery, assists in emotional balancing, and helps prevent postpartum depletion.

What are the benefits of Reiki energy healing for cancer patients?

Reiki is a gentle, deeply restorative complementary therapy used alongside conventional oncological care to enhance comfort and improve quality of life, especially during treatment and recovery. By calming the nervous system, Reiki provides deep relaxation fostering emotional and physical peace and calm.

Key benefits for cancer patients include:

- Symptom Management: Helps with calming treatment-induced side effects such as nausea, chronic pain, and fatigue.

- Emotional Stabilization: Soothes the nervous system to lower acute stress, anxiety, fear, and worry.

- Restoration: Triggers a profound state of physiological relaxation, which improves sleep quality.

To ensure comprehensive care, I integrate customized Reiki sessions into my holistic cancer support plans. You can learn more about how these sessions fit into a broader care plan by /health-wellness-coaching.

Medical Disclaimer: Reiki is a complementary practice designed to work alongside your oncology team. Reiki is never a replacement for prescribed medical treatments, surgeries, or therapies.

How long does a Reiki session typically last?

A typical Reiki session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. This total timeframe includes a brief conversation both before and after your hands-on treatment to discuss your intentions and check in on your experience.

Are there any side effects to Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice with no harmful side effects. Instead, clients typically experience deeply restorative "aftereffects"—such as heightened mental clarity, physical rejuvenation, and an energized state that can last for several days.

Because Reiki helps release accumulated stress, you may experience a gentle emotional release or notice a sense of profound peace as your energy shifts. It is also incredibly common to enjoy a night of exceptionally deep, restorative sleep immediately following your session. To support your body's natural integration and healing process, it is highly recommended to stay well-hydrated and drink plenty of water after your treatment.

Do you offer distance Reiki and how does that work?

Yes, I do! Distance Reiki is highly effective and offers the exact same therapeutic benefits as an in-person session—including deep stress reduction, anxiety relief, and pain management.

Energy is not limited by distance or time. During a remote session, I use focused intention and sacred Reiki symbols to connect with your energetic field, no matter where you are in the world. To help channel the energy, I may use a photograph or a physical surrogate object to anchor my focus.

For the best experience, we will schedule a specific time for your session so you can relax in a quiet, restful space at home, though the healing energy will still reach you even if you are moving about your day.

How often should I receive Reiki treatments?

Consistency is the key to unlocking the profound, long-term benefits of Reiki. Because energy needs to accumulate over time, your optimal schedule depends completely on your unique wellness goals:

- For General Wellness: If you use Reiki to manage daily stress and support your ongoing well-being, scheduling a session every two to three weeks is ideal for maintaining this goal.

- For Active Treatment & Recovery: If you are navigating an acute illness, injury, emotional trauma, or undergoing medical treatments, coming weekly or every other week provides the support your emotional and physical body needs to heal.

What is the difference between Reiki and a medical treatment?

Reiki is a holistic, non-invasive wellness modality that focuses on balancing the body’s subtle energy systems. It is an unregulated, non-licensed practice in the State of California, meant to serve strictly as a complementary care method.

While modern western medicine focuses on diagnosing and treating the physical symptoms of a disease, Reiki supports the whole person by calming the nervous system. It beautifully complements medical procedures—such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—by relieving anxiety, easing physical tension, and fostering a deep sense of inner peace.

Medical Disclaimer: Reiki does not provide medical advice, diagnoses, or cures for any disease or illness. It should never be used as a substitute for professional medical care from a licensed healthcare provider.

What training and qualifications do you have as a Reiki practitioner?

I was certified in 2024 as a Reiki Master practitioner, having completed the highest level of training in the Usui Reiki Master lineage.

Do you offer on-site Reiki?

Under certain circumstances, I will accommodate a request for on-site Reiki.

What is your cancellation policy?

A 24-hour cancellation is appreciated.

How is your Health and Wellness Coaching different from seeing a psychotherapist?

Health and Wellness Coaching is considered a complementary practice that is not licensed in the State of California. Health and Wellness Coaches do not diagnose or treat mental health or other conditions. In my practice as a Health and Wellness Coach, I focus on proactive, forward-looking behavior modification and habit change, and goal-setting to improve lifestyle habits for lifelong well-being. This includes providing effective mindfulness tools and other holistic techniques, as well as support and accountability. In contrast, a psychotherapist must be licensed by the state to diagnose and treat patients for mental health conditions.

How do I know if your coaching program is right for me?

I offer a 20-minute complimentary consultation on Zoom for all new clients. During this call, we’ll discuss your health and wellness goals, my holistic coaching approach, and determine if my program is the right fit for you.
